7 Days Belarus Jewish Heritage Tour Package from Prime Tour

Itinerary: Minsk – Volozhin – Vishnevo – Rakov – Mir – Novogrudok – Khatyn – Vitebsk

Arrival in Minsk. Meeting at the airport.

Transfer to the hotel. Check-in.

Sightseeing tour of Minsk incl. architectural and cultural monuments of the 17th –18th cents., historic part of the city – the Trinity Suburb.

Morning departure for VOLOZHIN to see the yeshiva established by Rav Hayim Volozhiner, a disciple of the Vilnya Gaon in 1803 (it existed until 1942, when the Nazis killed the last sixty-four students). Visit to the Jewish cemetery with the tomb of the great Hayim Volozhiner. The next stop is VISHNEVO, the former property of several Polish/Lithuanian magnates and also a birthplace of Simon Peres. Another little town is RAKOV, where  you’ll find yourself in the atmosphere of Jewish settlement of the end of the 19th century. There is a restored ancient Jewish cemetery. The town became a witness of mass executions of Jews during WWII.
Return to Minsk.

Departure for MIR and NOVOGRUDOK.
Sightseeing tour of Mir  (130 km from Minsk) incl a world-known yeshiva which was established in 1815 and numbered about five hundred students from around the world, four synagogues, the Old Jewish cemetery, an impressive memorial complex erected to commemorate the Jewish families murdered in WWII. Visit to the medieval Dukes’ Radziwill castle of Mir built in 1495. The castle of Mir offers a unique example of architecture of that period, Belarusian Gothic. Today it has features of Gothic, Renaissance, defensive and palace architecture.
Novogrudok  was the center of the Great Duchy of Lithuania. Nowadays you could find the ruins of the ancient castle and a lot of churches and monasteries. This is the town of the famous poet Adam Mitskevich (his mother came from the family of christened Jews).You could visit the museum of Local Lore which is a nice places to visit and to know  more of the Jewish community. Visit to the area of the Jewish ghetto and the places of the mass murder.
Return to Minsk.

Departure for VITEBSK (280 km). On the way  visit to the memorial complex Khatyn. On March 22, 1943 German fascists burnt down a small village Khatyn together with its dwellers, 149 people died in fire, 75 of them were children. There are 186 such villages in Belarus. The memorial “KHATYN” is an eternal memory of the victims of WWII, in which every third Belarussian perished.
Arrival in VITEBSK. Check in at the hotel.

Vitebsk is tightly connected with the name of Mark Chagal, one of the greatest artists of the XX century. Vitebsk city tour includes visits to the Chagal’s House-Museum and Art-Centre, as well as to his birthplace in Liozno. In Vitebsk there is also Yehuda Pen’s museum (Yehuda Pen – a Jewish – Belarusian artist, a teacher of Mark Chagal and an outstanding figure in the Jewish Renaissance in the Belarusian art) and several Jewish traditional buildings.
