Day 1 Salta
Upon your arrival in Salta you will be transferred from the international airport to your downtown hotel. In the afternoon you will be taken on a city tour visiting the historical and colonial heritage sites of this beautiful northern city, which offers more history than most of the rest of Argentine cities. Salta was one of the earliest settlements to be founded, and the chosen home of prosperous families related to Alto Peru. This is the reason its streets are a true treasure, with marvellous colonial constructions, churches and monuments. You will start the visit to the 9 de Julio square, then walking by the arcades that surround it. To finish the 9 de Julio square area, it is impossible not to visit the Cathedral Basílica and, right opposite to it, the historical Northern Cabildo. After a few blocks from the square you will get to the remarkable San Francisco Church. Within a short distance from here, the San Bernardo Convent shows its magnificent carob gate built in 1762. Following Caseros street but you will arrive to the Leguizamón and Arias Rengel residences, both of them converted into museums. Very close there is the former Hernández House, now turned into the Museum of the City. Another architectural jewel is the handcraft market.
The entertainment and gastronomy centre of Salta Caseros is in Balcarce street, from the old Rail Station. More than thirty bars, “peñas”, restaurantes and cafés invite the visitors to enjoy the night of Salta. On weekends there is a fair of knitting, ceramics, basketwork and regional sweets. Finally we will ascend the San Bernardo Hill, a privileged panoramic viewpoint in terms of the contemplation of the total extension of Valle de Lerma. Overnight in Salta.

Day 2 Salta – Cafayate
Today you will be leaving Salta early to visit the towns of the Valley of Lerma, to then arrive to the Quebrada de las Conchas (the Gorge of the Shells). This magnificent stone wall seems to jealously guard the vineyards of the Valley of Cafayate. The place has a special microclimate for the wine production; given the great thermal amplitude it is not necessary the use of chemical products and a truly organic production is obtained. Then you will continue on to the ruins of the ancient human settlement of the Quilmes, which we will tour on foot. We will return to the city of Cafayate. Overnight in Cafayate (Breakfast).

Day 3 Cafayate – Salta
After breakfast we will meet up to start the classic “Tour of the Valles Calchaquí Valleys”. We will take us along the edge of the fertile valleys of the Río Calchaquí River and we will cross the extraordinary Quebrada de las Flechas Gorge, passing through the small villages of Molinos and San Carlos. We will reach the old Village of Cachi, situated at the confluence of the Cachi and Calchaquí rivers; this town is located at 2280 m or 7300 ft. of altitude. This important pepper production centre is encompassed by impressive mountains like El Obispo and Cerro Negro. Handcrafts and loom made blankets made here are excellent souvenir ideas. Once we have explored the town and surrounding we will cross through the Parque Nacional Los Cardones National Park and then will head over to Salta where we will spend the night. (Breakfast)

Day 4 Salta – Quebrada de Humahuaca – Salta
Full-day excursion to Humahuaca, a trip into the past along the ancient Inca road. Stops are made at Tumbaya and Purmamarca, (Purma: desert and Marca: City in the native local language) with its tiny square and handicraft Indian market. At Purmamarca, you will be enchanted by the famous Hill of the Seven Colours. The Omaguacas, who were the original inhabitants of this remote area, used the strategic location of these rugged landscapes to perform ambushes on their enemies for centuries which enabled them to be one of the last bastions to be conquered by the Spaniards. Then continue to Tilcara, an ancient Inca fortress, as well as its Archaeological Museum. Before returning to Salta you will stop at San Salvador de Jujuy; near the southern end of the Humahuaca Canyon where wooded hills meet the lowlands. This well-preserved colonial town offers a beautiful cathedral surrounding Plaza Belgrano and a good sense of daily life, with many vendors dressed in traditional costumes selling food, indigenous crafts, and textiles. Overnight in Salta(Breakfast).
