Limited to just 14 people, this small group tour is the perfect introduction to Azerbaijan and Georgia, and will be escorted by one of our friendly knowledgeable Tour Managers.

Beyond Baku visit the Absheron Peninsula and discover bubbling mud volcanoes and giant spontaneous fires that burn for years through rain and snow from the oil-rich soil. The same natural phenomenon said to have sparked Zoroastrianism thousands of years ago. Journey north to Sheki, an ancient trading town with wide, leafy streets and medieval houses, and to the must-see – Khan’s Palace with its intricate frescoes and exquisite stained glass work.  The main highlights of Georgia are included on this itinerary with stays in the stunning Svaneti region in Georgia’s high Caucasus and Batumi, which has undergone a huge renaissance in past years.

The group size will be limited to 14 persons and will be escorted by a Tours Manager from Regent Holidays

DAY 1 Fly To Baku
Fly to Baku, transfer to Empire Hotel for 3 nights.

DAY 2 Baku
This morning enjoy a walking tour of Baku including the walled city of ‘Icheri Sheher’, with its narrow alleys, historic caravanserais, mosques and the Palace of the Shirvan Shahs.  Visit the 12-century Maiden Tower and Martyr’s Alley, which has wonderful views over Baku Bay. In the afternoon drive out to the Absheron Peninsula and visit the Asteshgah Zoroastrian Fire Temple, Mardakan Fortress and the mosque at Amirjan. Before returning to Baku visit the stunning Yanardagh Fire Mountain.  (B,L)

DAY 3 Gobustan

Drive out to Gobustan, which was declared a national historical landmark of Azerbaijan in 1966 with the aim to preserve the ancient carvings, relics, mud volcanoes and gas-stones in the region. Visit the small Gobustan Museum to gain a useful insight into this fascinating area. Afternoon free in Baku to explore at leisure. (B,L)

DAY 4 Baku To Sheki
Drive northwest to Sheki with stops in Shamahki, once famous for its traditional dancers and the village of Lahij, a centre of Azeri handicrafts. We will also visit Gabala, the old capital of ancient Caucasian Albania. On arrival in Sheki check-in to Olympic Hotel for 2 nights. (B,L,D)

DAY 5 Sheki
Spend the day exploring Sheki and its environs including a visit to the Oriental Bazaar and a local bakery to sample Sheki’s most famous dish ‘Sheki Halva’. In the afternoon visit the village of Kish, located in the foothills of the Caucasus, a veritable Garden of Eden with its harvest of cherries, currants, plums and pomegranates. (B,L,D)

DAY 6 Sheki To Telavi
This morning depart for the Georgian border at Lagodekhi. In the afternoon visit the Royal Town of Signagi, Bodbe Nunnery, Gremi Architectural Complex and Necresi Monastery before continuing to Telavi and check-in to Hotel Rcheuli Marani for overnight stay. (B,L,D)

DAY 7 Telavi To Tbilisi
This morning visit the elegant 11th-century Alaverdi Cathedral, before visiting Tsinandali Family Estate, which belonged to the 19th-century poet and Kakhetian Prince Alexander Chavchavadze, also known for its production of some fine wines. Continue to Tbilisi and check-in to Hotel Sharden for 2 nights. (B,L,D)

DAY 8 Tbilisi
Morning sightseeing tour of Tbilisi including the Sioni Cathedral, Rustaveli Avenue. Afternoon free in Tbilisi to explore at leisure. (B)

DAY 9 Tbilisi To Kutaisi
Drive west to Georgia’s second capital of Kutaisi with the first stop of the day at the Stalin Museum in Gori, birthplace of Stalin. Visit the cave town of Uplitsikhe before continuing on to Kutaisi. Overnight stay in guesthouse. (B,L,D)

DAY 10 Kutaisi To Mestia
Visit the pride of Kutaisi – the ruined church of King Bagrat, commissioned by the first king of a unified Georgia, and the Gelati Monastery, burial place of Georgia’s great leader – David the Builder. Drive to Zugdidi, near the de facto Abkhazian border, before ascending the Enguri Gorge to the remote Svaneti region. On arrival in the provincial capital of Mestia, check-in to Hotel Svaneti for 3 nights. (B,L,D)

DAY 11 Mestia
Morning tour of the highlights of Mestia including the Mestia Ethnographical Museum, a Svan dwelling tower and Lagami Church. Afternoon free to explore at leisure. (B,L,D)

DAY 12 Ushguli
Drive further up the valley to Ushguli, which is located at the feet of Shkhara, one of the highest Caucasian summits. About 70 families, approximately 250 people live in the village, which dates back more than 2000 years.  Enjoy a picnic lunch in this medieval pristine landscape. (B,L,D)

DAY 13 Mestia To Batumi
Drive down to the Black Sea and the coastal resort of Batumi, which has undergone a complete facelift during the past few years. Old Town buildings have been restored and the renovated palm tree-lined promenade is full of local families and couples enjoying a sea-side walk. There are plenty of cafés, restaurant and bars to keep the night owls amused! Check-in to Hotel Villa Rcheuli for 2 nights before a late afternoon walking tour of the Old Town. (B,L,D)

DAY 14 Batumi
Half day tour of Batumi including Batumi Agricultural Market, Gonio Fortress and the Botanical Garden, the world’s second-largest botanical gardens, perched on a cliff north of town, where there are 5,000 species of plants, including 100 different kinds of roses from around the globe. Afternoon free in Batumi to explore at leisure. (B,L,D)

DAY 15 Batumi To Tbilisi
Drive back to Tbilisi via Mtskheta, the 4th-century capital, which is dominated by Georgia’s first Christian cathedral – Svetitskhoveli, reputedly built on a grave containing a piece of Christ’s robe. We also visit Jvari Monastery, which commands a spectacular view of Mtskheta and the confluence of the two rivers, the Agvari and Mtkvari. On arrival in Tbilisi check-in to Hotel Shardan for overnight stay.  (B,L,D)

DAY 16 Fly To Uk
Morning transfer to airport for flight back to the UK (B)
