ITINERARY

Day 1 – Welcome to Iceland
Arrive at Keflavík Airport with meet and greet followed by transportation to your accommodation in Reykjavík. After settling in, you will have free time to explore the city on your own. In the afternoon/evening there will be a short information meeting with your guide.

Spend the night in central Reykjavik.

Day 2 – Golden Circle
The first leg of the journey takes you on the popular “Golden Circle” route. The drive includes stops at some of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland including Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the great Geysir hot springs area and Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most stunning waterfalls.

Spend the night in the Flúðir area.

Day 3 – Waterfalls & Volcanic Beaches
We start the day by seeing two beautiful waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skogarfoss. After visiting the Skogar Museum we head to Vík and the volcanic beach just south of the village. From there you can view the rock formations of Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar.

We then continue on to the Skaftafell area for an overnight stay. NOTE! Dyrholaey is closed from middle of May till June 23rd for Puffin nesting season.

Day 4 – Glaciers & Icebergs
We spend the morning exploring the remarkable Skaftafell area with its many optional hiking routes. Afterwards, we’ll get to experience the breathtaking Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon and its maze of icebergs.

Spend the night in the Djúpivogur area in South-east Iceland, nearby Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier.

Day 5 – Fjords to Moon-like Landscapes
Our drive takes us trough spectacular fjord scenery and charming fishing villages on our way to the capital of East Iceland, Egilsstaðir. Among the notable sites are the majestic Mt. Búlandstindur and the village of Stöðvafjörður. Once we have traversed the fjords and moorlands, prepare to be amazed by the unique natural beauty of Lake Mývatn and its eerie surroundings. We will pass by the lunar landscapes of the Námaskarð pass and Skútustaðagígar pseudo craters.

Spend the night in the Mývatn area.
NOTE: this is a long travel day.

Day 6 – Wilderness & Whales
Today’s route includes the Ásbyrgi canyon and Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, both located in the wondrous and varied wilderness of Jökulsárgljúfur National Park. We’ll spend some time at these unique sights before heading to the idyllic coastal village of Húsavík, known for its excellent whale watching, where we can enjoy some free time in the afternoon.

Day 7 – Capital of the North
We leave the beautiful area of Myvatn and stop by the Goðafoss waterfall  on our way to Akureyri, the “Capital of the North”. On arrival, we’ll take a stroll through the town center, which is always full of life during summer.

From there, we head to the northwestern part of Iceland for an overnight stay.

Day 8 – Return to Reykjavík
Today, we’ll finish our circle of Iceland by returning to Reykjavík. On the way, we’ll visit Deildartunguhver, the most voluminous hot springs in Europe, along with the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfalls and the historical sites at Reykholt. Back in Reykjavik, enjoy the rest of the afternoon/evening as you wish.

Day 9 – Departure
Transfer by Flybus to Keflavík Airport in time for your check-in and departure flight. If your flight is in the afternoon, you have the morning free to explore more of the capital city and its many cafes, museums, shops and other attractions.
