TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1: Abdjian Arrival. Arrival in Abbdjian reception and transfer to your hotel for overnight.

Day 2: Abdjian city tour. Breakfast, visit Abidjan and its contrasts: the sumptuous Villas of Cocody with its colorful market, the magnificent St. Paul Cathedral and the National Museum of African Civilization of Plateau, the impressive St. Mary’s Sanctuary of Adjame and the picturesque Treichville district, proceed to Grand Bassam, the old colonial capital of the country (1893-1900). Arrive and visit the old French Headquarters, the Craft center, the Ceramic center and the traditional Costumes Museum. Luncheon will be taken in a beach restaurant at Grand Bassam. Afternoon, relaxation and shopping at the souvenirs market and return to your hotel at Abidjan.

Day 3: Abdjian – Yamoussoukro. Depart Abidjan for Yamoussoukro, the new political and administrative capital of Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast); arrive after 3 hours drive and check in at President SPDC hotel. Visit the huge and majestic “Our Lady of Peace” Basilica and the University Colleges. Luncheon will be taken in a typical “maquis” restaurant. Afternoon, visit of Baoulé weavers villages Return to town, dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 4: Yamoussoukro – Ferkessedougou. Breakfast and departure for Ferkessedougou, by the way visit of some traditional villages, arrival city tour and overnight at your hotel.

Day 5: Ferkessedougou – Bobo Dioulasso. Breakfast and Today drive to Bobo arrival and tour of Bobo Dioulasso, (“house of the Bobo merchants”), Burkina Faso’s second largest city and visit the old mosque and visit the old Kibidwe artisans’ district. The old Kibidwé district is a great area to stroll around and it’s well worth the experience to see how this side of the city lives, and if we’re lucky we may be treated to a performance by some of the musicians who live in the part of the town. In the afternoon we leave Bobo and continue drive to Gaoua. En route we stop in Banforo to visit the Karfiguela waterfalls and Lac Tengrela. We also stop at the mysterious stone ruins of Loropeni whose origins are unknown, but the local Gan people call them the “house of refusal”. Overnight stay at Hotel Relax. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 6: Bobo Dioulasso – Ouagadougou. Breakfast at the lodge. Check out and depart for a drive to the animated capital city of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Overnight at hotel in Ouagadougou. Lodging: Relaxl Hotel. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 7: Ouagadougou city tour. Depart for a sightseeing tour of Ouagadougou the traditional capital of the Mossi Empire. Visit the Grand Marche, also known as “Rood Woko” is the modern and perhaps most attractive marketplace in West Africa. This is the best place to shop for baskets with leather wrapped handles, fabrics and print from Cote D’Ivoire plus a good selection of indigo tie-dyed cloth from Guinea. Again visit the Center Artisanto shop for bronze castings, carvings masks, jewelry-desert crosses and terracotta beads as well as Tuareg leather boxes. End the day by visiting the Musee National. The museum is primarily of an ethnographic collection such as clay pots, basket making and weaving exhibits, Burkina Faso’s regional costumes including the Mossi chief’s regalia, ancestral statutes of the Bobo, Mossi, Lobi and Gourounsi people. Overnight at your hotel in Ouagadougou. Lodging: Soiritel Hotel. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 8: Ouagadougou – Niamey. Breakfast and departure for Niamey, arrival in the afternoon and overnight at your hotel.

Day 9: Niamey city tour. Depart for a drive to Niamey, Niger. Check into your hotel and have lunch. After lunch, explore the treasures of Niamey, the capital city of Niger. Visit the Grand Marche, the Musee National and the Center Cultural Franco-Nigerien. This center has an active schedule that includes exhibits by local artists and craftsmen, dance and theater performances, and regular film screenings. After lunch use remainder of the day for relaxation. Overnight at hotel in Niamey. Lodging: Gaweye Hotel. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 10: Niamey – National Park of Arli. “W” Parc National D’Arli in Burkina Faso. Take leisure trek in the D’Arli game park that houses the hippos, lions, elephants, monkeys, buffaloes, leopards and more. After lunch take an optional trek through the National Park to view West Africa’s big game, for the faint heart you can optionally spend the remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight at a camp in Parc D’Arli. Lodging: Parc D’Arli. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 11: National Park – Natitingou Benin. Pendjari National Park. After breakfast, enjoy a drive through the historic Pendjari National Park, one of West Africa’s surviving tropical savannas. Take a walk through this forest to discover the wide variety and significant Big Game where you have a good chance of spotting elephants, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, lions, warthogs, monkeys, antelopes and other exotic wildlife. After lunch spend the remainder of the day at leisure arrival at Natitingou. Overnight hotel in Natitingou. Lodging: Tata Somba Hotel. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 12: Natitingou – Parakou. Check out and depart Natitingou for a drive to Parakou. Check into your hotel and have lunch. After lunch, spend the rest of the day either interacting with the local people or relaxing at your hotel. Overnight at hotel in Parakou. Lodging: Centrale Hotel. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 13: Parakou – Abomey. Breakfast at hotel. Depart Parakou for a drive to Abomey, the historical capital of the great kingdom of Dahomey. Visit the 15th century Royal Palace and its museum featuring relics that tell the story of this great kingdom that survived for several centuries. Overnight at hotel in Abomey. Lodging: Motel Abomey. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 14: Abomey – Ganvie – Cotonou. After breakfast, make a sensational visit to Ganvie (the village on water), commonly referred to as the Venice of West Africa. Witness first hand, the people of Ganvie carrying out their daily routine as vendors in dugout canoes pile high with wares, transacting commerce with one another and with tourists. You will enjoy shopping the floating market and a cruise on the waterways of this exotic 300-year-old village. After lunch, take a city tour of Cotonou. Drive through the multicolored center of the administrative and commercial capital of Benin to view its many statues and monuments. Overnight at a hotel in Cotonou.

Day 15: Cotonou – Ouidah – Lome. After breakfast, check out of hotel and depart for Lome. En route, visit Glidji, the spiritual capital city of the Guen tribe of Togo; meet chief priest of the sacred forest and learn about the ceremony of the raising of the sacred stone. We will continue to Hila Condji to go through immigration formalities once again as we cross over to Benin. After crossing, we will head further east to Ouidah to first visit the historical museum, a former Portuguese slave fort.

We shall go through the footprints of their ancestors to experience the slave route which ends at the “Door of No Return”. Upon returning we will visit the Temple of the Sacred Pythons. Next, we will continue to enjoy our drive eastward to Cotonou, the capital of the Republic of Benin, our third African Country. Upon arrival in the city, we will check-in at one of our partner hotels. Overnight is at our hotel in Cotonou, Benin. Includes: (B).

Day 16: Lome city tour – Departure. Early morning Togo’s capital Lome. Enjoy a tour of the city, which includes the Place de l’Independence and the National Museum. Observe sacred voodoo shrines side by side with the city’s Roman Catholic Cathedral. Visit the Lomé central market, or Grand Marche, where pearls, baskets, pottery and sacred pieces are on display. Also stopover at the Akodesséwa fetishes market, where one can find magic remedies and local voodoo charms used by local sorcerers, in the evening transfer to the airport.
